Somdal Associates was brought onto the design team to manage the interior design aspects of this hospitality project as construction began. The interior designers were assigned the task of formulating a conceptual scheme that reflected the diverse ideas of the owners.
The design concept was to establish a unique character through the use of warm, rich, traditionally Mediterranean colors applied to standard materials on the floor and wall finishes. The focal point of the design concept is the use of stained concrete on the floor finish in the entry area and the bar. Multiple colors and patterns were developed as the identifying element of the design. In fact, the restaurant owners chose the floor pattern inside the entry to the building as their logo for all marketing purposes. The patterns in the floor were achieved by saw cutting joints into the structural slab and coloring the various sections to create an overall scheme that mimics a tile or mosaic type finish. The floors in the Dining areas of the project were finished with carpet to provide an acoustical value to the more intimate spaces of the facility. Painted wall finishes were used throughout based on the Mediterranean color palette. As an accent, the entry area and bar were finished with a faux finish texture on the walls to create visual interest and depth on the vertical planes of the larger spaces.
